Meet Gumbo
Gumbo is a Morkie. I think that means that he's part Maltese, part Yorkie. In any case, it means cute. And fiesty. And wet. (Gumbo is very exited to make friends with everyone, and to show his love, he offers a wet sprinkle.) He loves Richard the most, who has to change every time Gumbo comes for a visit.
Gumbo is the proud owner of our favorite family in Greensboro. He's also Ozzie's best doggie friend. This week, Gumbo had to have some minor surgery and we hope his recovery is going well.
As you might guess, Gumbo's human family hails from New Orleans. I think this must be a great place to grow people...because I've only ever met two genuine New Orleanians and I love them both to pieces! (That includes you, Sush.)
Today is Friday. And Friday means I get to teach our writer's workshop. This week we're going to be talking about character development. I want to thank Shelly for all the wonderful advice and for allowing me to borrow one of her stories for class today. It's going to be the best lesson I've ever taught!
Have a great weekend friends!

Oh, Gumbo is a sweetie! Had to laugh at his sincere greeting. I'm sure it's heartfelt.
ReplyDeleteYou are going to do wonders with your lesson today. Those kids are going to be so hungry to write even more.
You are a born teacher, my friend!
If you're name dropping, Sush and Shelly are two of the greatest names in blogging. Gumbo is precious! The camera loves him as much as Ozzie does. Gumbo instantly reminded me of a Yorkie that I owned in the mid 70s. We named her Thomas' English Muffin V. We had to make her "the fifth" because there were already four other AKC registered dogs with the same name. Happy Friday, Jenny, and have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh my, that Gumbo is the cutest thing!! I want one!!! Love it how Richard gets wet when Gumbo is around!!! When Alfred was leaving with the family a couple of weeks ago, when I walked into the conservatory, he had left a little puddle for me to remember him by!!! Like you, I do hope that his recovery will go well. Isn't it amazing, how we have these wonderful bloggy friends to help us and give us advice. Hope your day goes well in the writer's workshop.
ReplyDeleteThomas' English Muffin! I love it!
ReplyDeleteShelly and Thisisme, the class was a hit! They loved Shelly's story of running with the cows. http://shellysm.blogspot.com/2011/06/i-may-not-dance-with-wolves-but-i-do.html
When I asked them to guess the author's age they said 7, 11, and 29. They thought she was a farmer who loved fitness. And then they wrote...my goodness, they actually wrote!
I knew you would ignite them to write- you just have that spark in you that they catch! I feel so young now- glad they didn't think I was 80!
DeleteWhat a cutie he is, Gumbo [I like the name]. I like dogs a lot, miss having one at times.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day and weekend! Hugs x
What a gorgeous little dog and how your camera loves him! I, too, hope he'll bounce back from his procedure. So glad to hear your workshop was such a resounding success, but I wouldn't have expected otherwise with you in charge ;)
ReplyDeleteI love you right back Jenny! Funny that your New Orleans friends have called their dog Gumbo. We called our newest pup, Beignet. Actually our daughter is now raising Beignet. When Elise moved into her own townhouse Beignet made the move with her for protection, companionship and love. I couldn't bare to separate the two.
ReplyDeleteI'm so thrilled your writing workshop is coming along. I love that your are living out your dreams....
Hugs~
Sush, I had my first Beignet last week at a restaurant called Daryl's in Greensboro. They arrived on a plate looking fantastic all covered in powdered sugar. They tasted wonderful! We didn't order the dipping sauces to go with them but next time we will.
DeleteHow exciting that the class went so well, Jenny! That's wonderful news my friend x
ReplyDeleteThank you Diane, I don't think this would have happened without your gentle encouragement:)
Deletetoo stinking cute! he's just adorable. our yorkie leaves a puddle to welcome people, too. funny thing is, if i don't talk to her when i first come in the door, she doesn't do it. it's when you talk to her that she can't contain herself. lol.
ReplyDeleteTeresa, I'll have to share that bit of wisdom with Richard. Maybe if he pretends to ignore him his pants will be saved!
ReplyDeleteLove little Gumbo - I kind of want to steal him. Except for the puddling part. And I'm excited that your class went well! *fist pump* But then I got distracted by Sush's talk of beignets in her comments. I do so love beignets...
ReplyDeleteSo very cute and what a wonderful name!! Love him!!
ReplyDeleteGumbo is too too cute! How I would love to have a little doggie!
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to have found your blog place :)
I have something for you! Please take a moment and come see...
